Italian designers have earned a reputation for creating sophisticated fashion and industrial and interior design for adults. But another branch of Italian design excellence can be found in the world of children's books. This design tradition is expressed in the quality work of Italian print shops and in events like the Children's Book Fair in Bologna, as well as in illustrative stories produced by Italian graphic designers like Enzo and Iela Mari. In this talk, I will look at the legacy of illustrated books that challenge and play with standard book conventions, and focus on Bruno Munari, examining how his work remains fresh and still resonates with both adults and children today.
